ZES KINDEREN !!

Misschien een wat verwarrende titel. Het is wel het gevoel wat er in mij omgaat op het moment. Ik kan wel weer 'n titel verzinnen met Michael en Sophia; zes kinderen vond ik meer vraagopwekkend.
De eerste drie kinderen is dat heerlijke drietal uit Heemstede: Aniek, Ilya en Dion. Het vierde kind is Viola, de dochter van Brenda. Michael en Sophia zijn de andere twee kinderen die voelen alsof ze "van mij" zijn! Hieronder lezen jullie waarom. Het is mijn verslag aan het bestuur van de Holland Disabled Association: zij betalen mijn reis- en verblijfskosten en dit verslag is de verantwoording van die kosten.


VISIT KASEMPA (16-17 nov)
Reason: Michael Mwaji visit hospital

The plan was to travel on 15th November by minibus to Kasempa. Due to the fact that Father Pio and me received unexpected visitors from South Africa and Lusaka, I didn't left on 15th. These friends have a lot of experience in social welfare and with a medical background. I learned a lot from them and very important was the fact that they could help Sophia, a 7 year old girl from Kasempa who's in Cheshire Home and had already surgery in the Italian Hospital. At BATA they bought two left shoes (two pair!) and socks and now Sophia can learn how to walk and, very important, without pain!
To be in time in Kasempa I had to rent the pick-up from Kolbe House to drive up and down Kasempa. It's more expensive but saves time.
For everything is a reason! Also for this change of schedule. We (David, Patricia and me) arrived in the compound where Michael lives and he was crawling in worn out clothes, very dirty and smelling like a pig. His wheelchair was outside in the rain with flat and worn out tyres. His grandmother was in the chota and was not very interested in greeting us. It's easy to see that the family is not serious about caring for Michael. The bandages, bought by Antje and John, are not being used and his legs look terrible. After quick wash and fresh clothes we took him to Mukinge Hospital. Again change in plans: due to the bad weather doctor Jellis could not fly. Maybe next week!? We talked with the director of the hospital, exchanged Email addresses to have easier communication. Since we had Michael and his grandma in the car, we decided to drive immediately to mister Kameko from Social Welfare to talk about the social problem with Michaels family. He talked strongly with grandmother and promised to summon her and the two aunties of Michael. Let's hope that all the effort will turn into a respectable life for Michael and that soon he will get the same chance as Sophia.

Advice to the board of Holland Disabled Association:
Form as soon as possible "Support Committee" and work hand-in-hand with other associations for people with disabilities and with Social Welfare, Cheshire Homes and Liliane Foundation. In that way HDA can help many disabled with the best profitability! The situation for many fellow disabled is hopeless!
